CME Objectives for Wellness Retreat in Mexico

 May 16th - 20th, 2026 

Day 1: 

  • 1500: Arrive
  • 1800: Welcome dinner
  • 1930: Opening circle 
  • 2100-2200: Integrative Strategies for Stress Reduction and Burnout Prevention: Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Sound Bath 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Demonstrate at least three yoga-based strategies to support emotional regulation during clinical practice.

Day 2: 

  • 0600: Tea & coffee available 
  • 0800-0930: Evidence-Based Mind-Body Practices for Stress Relief and Emotional Regulation 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Perform foundational yoga postures with proper alignment, modifications, and contraindication awareness relevant to common healthcare-related injuries.
      • (2) Demonstrate how breathwork can reduce stress, improve focus and concentration, and decrease the effects of burnout.
  • 1000-1130: Breakfast chat - Burnout Defined: How It Affects Healthcare Professionals and What We Can Learn 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Describe three core components of burnout (i.e. emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, reduced accomplishment).
      • (2) Identify at least five early warning signs of burnout in themselves and colleagues.
      • (3) Describe the Maslach Burnout Inventory and its usefulness to determine the severity of burnout.
  • 1130-1230: Free time until lunch
  • 1230-1400: Lunch chat - Healthy Habits in Healthcare: Optimizing Exercise and Nutrition to Manage Stress and Burnout 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Identify at least three evidence-based benefits of yoga (exercise) relevant to healthcare professionals (i.e. burnout reduction, improved focus, musculoskeletal support).
      • (2) Identify which supplements can assist with support of cognitive and emotional functioning.
  • 1400-1800: Afternoon activity or free time - choice to either do excursion or lounge
  • 1800: Dinner 
  • 1930: Evening circle 
  • 2100-2200: Mind-Body Interventions to Reduce Burnout: Evidence from Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Sound Bath
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Recognize at least three yoga-based strategies to support emotional regulation during clinical practice. 

Day 3

  • 0600: Tea & coffee available 
  • 0800-0930: Integrative Practices for Stress Reduction and Emotional Resilience (Sunrise temple meditation + yoga flow) 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Integrate mindfulness cues that promote interoceptive awareness and mental quiet during meditation and yoga movement. 
  • 1000-1130: Breakfast chat - Beyond Burnout: Recognizing and Reflecting on Compassion Fatigue and Moral Injury
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Differentiate burnout from depression, compassion fatigue, and moral injury.
      • (2) Explain how the mirror neuron system is related to our experience of burnout.
  • 1130-1230: Free time until lunch
  • 1230-1400: Lunch chat -  Incorporating Yoga and Mobility into Daily Life: Tools to Manage Stress and Burnout
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Remember appropriate adaptation of poses for limited mobility, fatigue, or injury. 
  • 1400-1800: Afternoon activity or free time - choice to either do excursion or lounge
  • 1800: Dinner 
  • 1930: Evening circle
  • 2100-2200: Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Sound Bath: Restorative Approaches to Stress and Burnout 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Demonstrate appropriate prop setup (bolsters, blankets, blocks, etc) to fully support the body in restorative postures. 

Day 4: 

  • 0600: Tea & coffee available
  • 0800-0930: Integrative Approaches to Stress Reduction: Experiencing Yoga, Mobility, and Meditation 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Perform yoga movement sequences that support downregulation of the nervous system. 
  • 1000-1130: Breakfast chat - Tools for Balance: Sharing Experiences with Boundaries and Self-Compassion in Healthcare 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Identify what boundaries are and why they are important.
      • (2) Identify at least three evidence-based boundary-setting strategies that reduce emotional exhaustion and work overload.
      • (3) Explain what self compassion is and why it is related to healing from burnout.
  • 1130-1230: Free time until lunch
  • 1230-1400: Lunch chat - Daily Practices for Clinician Resilience: Incorporating Yoga, Meditation, and Sound into Your Life 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Explain how breathwork, meditation/mindfulness, and gentle movement can be integrated into daily practice for personal self care.
      • (2) Explain how sound healing can help regulate our nervous system.
  • 1400-1800: Afternoon activity or free time - choice to either do excursion or lounge
  • 1800: Dinner + fire dancers
  • 1930: Evening circle
  • 2100-2200: Reducing Stress and Burnout: Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Sound Therapy
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Understand personal stress patterns and occupational risk factors for burnout using yoga-based reflection tools (i.e. meditation and yoga Nidra)

Day 5

  • 0600: Tea & coffee available
  • 0700-0800: Enhancing Emotional Regulation and Calm Through Yoga, Mobility, and Meditation 
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Apply joint mobility principles - including CARs and gentle range of motion techniques - to support safe movement in clinical and personal settings.
      • (2) Demonstrate breathwork patterns which can be used during stressful moments to improve our nervous system regulation and our response to stressful stimuli.
  • 0830-0930: Breakfast chat - Rethinking Rest: Mini Retirements as a Tool for Burnout Prevention
    • Objectives:
      • (1) Describe the concept of a “mini retirement” and distinguish it from vacations, sabbaticals, and traditional time-off models.
      • (2) Explain the psychological and physiological rationale for extended breaks as a protective factor against burnout.
